A Loan Of $350 Helped To Purchase Sacks Of Charcoal
Entrepreneur Welfont Joe Johnson from Goodfield Bradenton, helped to fund a microloan for Natividad, a charcoal saleswoman from the Philippines.
Here is Natividad’s Story
In Tanjay, Negros Occidental in the Philippines, there is a married woman who is a mother of 11 children. Her name is Natividad and she works hard to support her family. She runs a local business that buys and sells charcoal, and to further subsidize her income, she also sells fruit. She has taken out a total of 18 loans to help sustain her business activities and she is now seeking another loan. With this loan, she hopes to purchase more sacks of charcoal to sell to her customers through her buy and sell charcoal business.
Recently, Natividad approached the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation to secure a loan for her business. If she gets the loan and is able to purchase more charcoal, she hopes to reach her dream of saving enough money to send her children to college.
Her loan was administered by the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF), a Kiva partner and non-governmental organization. It was through Kiva and the NWTF that entrepreneur, Joe Johnson (Welfont Joe Johnson) was able to provide Natividad with a loan worth 15,000 Philippine Pesos as she requested.
