Joe Johnson, Ph.D. is an entrepreneur, investor, and start-up expert who is also the founder of The Welfont Group, one of the country’s fastest-growing commercial real estate brokerage firms. As head of The Welfont Group, Dr. Joe Johnson has led the acquisition of over 10 million square feet of commercial, industrial, and residential real estate space spread throughout 1,000 acres in twelve states across the country.
For over 25 years, Welfont Joe Johnson has studied and practiced entrepreneurship and organizational leadership. He is a firm believer in the values of perseverance, tenacity, and competitiveness. More than a dozen start-up companies have been funded and guided under his watch, and he parlayed this experience into the venture investment company, GoodField Investments. As Founder and Principal, Dr. Joe Johnson is constantly looking for fresh, disruptive ideas that show promise, and commits time, money, and effort into turning these ideas into reality.
Dr. Joe Johnson is also the Founder of GoodField Foundation, a non-profit that searches for underprivileged entrepreneurs, conducts research on entrepreneurial trends, and funds faith-based entrepreneurial projects throughout the world. As a Christian, Welfont Joe Johnson is heavily involved in multiple non-profit organizations and ministries. His advocacies include school-based ministries, collegiate athletics, orphanages, pregnancy centers, microfinancing, and the reduction of both poverty and human trafficking worldwide.
Dr. Joe Johnson is currently publishing a book, Entrenomics: The Science of Why Most Entrepreneurs Fail and Some Succeed, which heavily draws from both his academic research and personal experiences as an entrepreneur. He focuses on the different variables that influence organizational leadership resulting in a high degree of performance among start-ups.
Prior to founding The Welfont Group, Dr. Joe Johnson established a reputation as a master of turnarounds. At 24 years old, he was named CEO of a technology company after masterminding recovery efforts from $12 million in insolvency. He re-launched SUCCESS Magazine after it declared for bankruptcy, increasing its circulation to over 500,000 copies, and sold it to a group of investors for millions of dollars. In two years, he was able to grow a start-up company to over $60 million in market value without any equity financing or outside investment and has raised over $50 million in investment capital for his other business ventures, consisting of debt, equity, and other financing methods. In addition, he has secured millions of dollars in donations for his chosen charities and other non-profit organizations.
Dr. Joe Johnson is the child of Christian missionaries. He grew up in Ohio, where as a young swimmer, he won numerous medals and set state records. He attended The Ohio State University on a swimming scholarship, and continued his swimming career at Ashland University, where he graduated from the MBA program and captained the swim team. He also holds a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurial Leadership from Regent University.
Dr. Joe Johnson is a loving Christian husband with six wonderful children. The Johnson family lives in Bradenton, FL, where they take advantage of the subtropical climate by boating and fishing along the Gulf Coast.
