A loan of $325 helped to purchase additional fishing net and pay for maintenance for the fishing boat.

Welfont Joe Johnson funded a microloan for a growing venture for Rosalie, an entrepreneur in the Philippines.
Here is Rosalie’s Story
In the heart of Hinobaan Philippines, Rosalie has been operating a fishing business for the last eight years. During that time she has been working hard to help her husband support her family, and her business has helped them tremendously. However, growing the business has been rather difficult, and therefore she approached one of Kiva’s partners NWTF for a loan.
Her loan request of 15,000 Philippine Pesos would enable her to buy additional fishing nets and pay for the maintenance of her fishing boat. By doing this, she will be able to catch more fish to sell and therefore be able to expand her business. She hopes that in the future, she will save enough money to afford to send her children to college.
Support Partners
Her loan was administered by Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, Inc. (NWTF), a non-governmental organization that was created to help men and women achieve self-sufficiency, especially in the province of Negros Occidental. Their main focus is this province due to the high number of low income communities that reside in it. Other than microfinance, NWTF also provides other products such as life insurance, accidental death benefits and hospital income benefits.
Through Kiva and NWTF, Welfont Joe Johnson has fully funded Rosalie’s loan. With the help of people like Dr. Johnson, these organizations are helping to change the lives of thousands of people by providing microfinance to those that need it the most. Kiva brings people together, while NWTF identifies needy people on the ground who require assistance, then people like Dr. Johnson provide them with the loans.
Rosalie’s loan of 15,000 Philippine pesos or $325 was fully funded byDr. Joe Johnson. With the loan, she now has the opportunity to keep her boat on the water and bring in a bigger catch. This will help her support her family better and realize her dreams of sending her kids to college.
