A Loan Of $525 Helped To Buy Goats
Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Welfont Joe Johnson from Goodfield helped fund a microloan for Medard, a farmer from Uganda.
Here is Medard’s Story

Right in the heart of Kamwenge, Uganda, you will find a hardworking married man who has two children. He works as a farmer to raise some money, though his primary source of income is raising livestock. Over the last few years he has experienced a number of droughts in the city and this has made it difficult for him to meet his vision of becoming rich and successful. Nonetheless, he wants to do what he can to grow his business from day to day. For this reason, he is looking to get a loan to purchase more goats so that he can sell them.
He decided that the best course of action would be to approach a company that was his local Kiva partner, HOFOKAM, for a loan to help his business. The loan was approved and locally administered by HOFOKAM, a non-governmental micro finance institution that was founded by the Catholic Diocesess of Hoima, Fort Portal and Kasese in Western Uganda.
Using Kiva’s lending platform and HOFOKAM, the entrepreneur Welfont Joe Johnson made the decision to provide funding in full for Medard’s loan. Now he is able to purchase many more goats so that he can attain more profits.
